Senate Bill 42 does not affect Tier 1 SERS members or retirees.
SB 42 does not change any of the benefits of Tier 1 SERS members and retirees. SB 42 creates an optional Tier 3 hybrid plan for future SERS members who are not covered by Social Security, and also allows Tier 2 members who are not covered by Social Security to choose the Tier 3 hybrid plan.

1099-R In January 2018 the office of the Comptroller will mail form 1099-R to anyone who received payments from SERS in 2017. This form is provided for tax filing purpose and if needed, please consult with a tax consultant.
2018 Tax Rates New tax rates have been released and will go into effect on your February 2018 benefit check. The rates are reflected on the website table.
Did you know Retirees and Survivors can now view and print their own income verification from the secure Member Services website. Login to https://memberservices.srs.illinois.gov and select "member service tab" from the left navigation bar. These letters can be used for loan applications and financial needs.
SERS is getting a new look We are rolling out a new brand, creating a consistent look and feel to our materials. As we modernize our operations, we have decided to update the headers as well. We are implementing the changes, including our new logo in stages. We aim to have all materials rebranded with our new logo by the end of 2018.
